Sats.
At the end of each key
stage, your child’s teacher will formally assess their sats
performance. This assessment or sats
test is used along with the national
tests to measure your child’s progress. Of course, your child’s
teacher will be informally assessing their sats
learning at other times, in order to plan future teaching. They might, for
example, listen to your child read or look at their maths
work. Some schools will also use optional sats
tests to assess children’s progress.
National Curriculum
levels. The National Curriculum
is divided into eight levels. At Key
Stage 1 the school will send you a report telling you what level your
child is working at. The level will be based on the teacher's
assessment and will take into account results from national
tests and tasks.At Key
Stage 2 and Key Stage
3, the school will send you a report telling you what National
Curriculum level your child has reached in the ‘end of key
stage’ tests
and teacher assessments.
‘End of key stage’
sats tests, at the end of Key
Stage 2 and key stage
3 your child will take national
tests. The tests
– which children can’t ‘fail’ - are intended to show
if your child is working at, above or below the target levels for their age,
so that the right plans can be made for their future learning.
Key Stage 1 teacher
assessments, tasks and sats
tests Teacher assessment
for seven year olds covers: reading,
writing, speaking,
and listening, Maths,
Science. These assessments
take account of how your child performed in Key
Stage 1 tasks and tests
for seven year olds covering: reading,
writing, handwriting,
spelling, Maths.
The tasks and tests
can be taken at a time the school chooses. They last for less than three hours
altogether. The teacher
assessment is moderated by your local authority. This is to make sure
teachers make consistent assessments of children’s work.
The National Curriculum,
taught to all pupils in state or maintained schools, is made up of blocks
of years, known as key stages:
• Year 1 and Year 2 of primary school are known as
Key Stage 1
• Years 3 to 6 of primary school are known as Key
Stage 2
Your child will take the same compulsory National
Curriculum subjects in Key
Stage 1 and key stage 2:
• English
• Mathematics
• Science
• Design and technology
• Information and
Communication Technology (ICT)
• History
• Geography
• Art and design
• Music
• Physical education
Text
books are available for all these subjects from skoolzone
National Curriculum levels
For Key Stage 1,
key stage 2, and key
stage 3, the National
Curriculum is accompanied by a series of eight levels, used to evaluate
your child’s work compared to pupils of the same age throughout the
country. By the end of Key
Stage 1, most children will have reached level 2, and by the end of
Key Stage 2 most will
be at level 4. At the end of Key
Stage 1 and key stage
2 your child will take national
tests.
Primary National Strategy
The Primary National Strategy (PNS) grew out of the National Numeracy
and Literacy Strategies.
The main focus of the Strategy is on raising literacy
and numeracy skills
among primary school
children.
Literacy, Under the
PNS, your child will receive daily literacy
teaching. This involves a number of activities to help them learn to read
and write. Parents
are also encouraged to support this at homeusing the text books available
from skoolzone.
Numeracy, Your child
will also receive a daily maths
lesson, which develops mathematical thinking and number skills. The PNS tries
to involve parents as much as possible. There is also a comprehensive suite
of catch-up programmes designed to help pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who
have fallen behind.
Sats revision can seem
ominous but there is a large industry out there to help. Sats
revision books come in all the core subjects, there are sats
revision past papers and sats revision workbooks and text books
to help you. Revision books and text books are available in all subjects.
There are now many revision books publishers including letts
, bond assessment, CGP revision books and Skoolzone.
Revision books or text books provide a cheap and effective way to help
prepare for any exam. Test papers are also an essential part of revision.
Practising on old test papers will help the student to prepare themselves
for the exam by becoming familiar with the layout. Test papers for
sats and the eleven plus 11+ exam are readily available.

in the foundation stage and progresses through year 1. The key stage

a way of assessing the standard of the children. Key stage 2 sats comes
at the end of year six. Ks2 sats are used by the secondary schools
to assess children as they arrive . Ks2 sats cover science maths
and English. Key stage 3, ks3, subjects are much broader.
KS3 is a preparation for the Gcse exams and will help children
to decide on the subjects to be taken. Key stage 3, ks3 sats tests
are progressively harder. GCse exams are sat in year 9. GCSE

gcse history, gcse physics, gcse French , gcse German,

down into A2 level and as level. A2 level, being the
final exam, and as level, being an intermediate level. Normally three
a levels subject are studied and they will be used to obtain a place at university.
Educational Software is a growing business for schools and colleges.
With home computers being so prevalent in households that lots of educational
software can now be found to compliment all levels of study and revision.
Sats tests come at key stage 1, key stage 2, and key
stage 3, Sats tests are national tests, sat by all children.
National comparisons are drawn from them. The eleven plus exam is often
used by Grammar schools as an entry test. The 11+ exam is not like
sats. It comprises of more verbal reasoning and non verbal
reasoning questions. The 11+ or eleven plus exam was very
popular in the 50’s but has lost its importance as the number of grammar

Revision tips Start NOW. Don't leave revision until the last
moment. buy some text books. With careful planning you should be able to take
the exams in your stride. 2. Identify the subjects that require a lot of revision
and the areas that you feel weak in. Work on these. 3. Your concentration
will lapse if you try to do too much on a subject at once. Revision
should last between half an-hour and one hour will probably be the optimum
time. 4. Make out a revision program based on the time available. Try
to make your revision timetable organized and detailed, 5. Make your
revision active. Don't just sit in front of a book staring at it!!!
It doesn't work! (a) Revise a small section for 5-10 minutes. (b) Then
test yourself on the facts/ideas studied, (c) Possibly work through past test
papers questions or essay titles to ensure that you can apply your knowledge.
(d) For some subjects brief summaries of a topic / model-answer can be usefully
made on to postcards or index cards. (These can be very useful as last minute
revision.) (e) If there are problems, see the teacher, who teaches
you,
Revision should start early think about revising at these levels. Sats
ks1, Sats ks2, Sats exams, Sats ks3, Ks1 sats,
Ks2 sats, Ks3 sats. Verbal reasoning bond assessment
papers contain carefully graded papers that practice all the key skills.
It provides a thorough coverage of the essentials in verbal reasoning
- the National Curriculum and more! It is designed for consolidation,
revision, exam practice and homework. It is presented
in a new modern format and layout, which makes it even easier to mark. Non
verbal reasoning The key issue with non-verbal reasoning is that
the questions are genuinely testing - and the questions in Bond Assessment
Papers certainly are! They cover all the types of non-verbal reasoning
questions currently set in exams. We also produce a short step-by-step guide
to tackling non-verbal reasoning questions. Perfect for 11+
revision. Revision guides and study guides can be purchased
for eleven plus, 11+, A level, Sats, and Gcse
levels. They are perfect for those in Home school groups or those Home
schooling their own children. They help with Homework and all areas
of the national curriculum. Study Guides are very helpful. Home
school: Although education in the UK is compulsory, school is not, and
more parents are now considering home schooling for their children.
This may be because they are not happy with the education on offer, or because
they feel that the different needs of their child are not being met.
